This Balaji product set the standards different for the entire fraternity. If anyone asks you to point at a show that redefined the genre of Indian TV Serials, that’s Naagin. This super duper hit show was being telecasted in Colors TV serials and features Arjun Bijlani, Mouni Roay and Adaa Khan.
The first edition came to a successful end. But Balaji wasn’t done milking it’s finest cow. The show is back on Colors with Karanvir Bohra and Mouni Roy in it. Following the same track of an a vengeful snake who can turn into anything it wants, the season 2 is enjoying tremendous success. We can’t say we are surprised though. After all, who is better than Ekta in creating chemistry and onscreen magic?
2. KumKum Bhagya
Another Balaji product, this show is invincibly popular amongst youngsters and older generation alike. Credits to its sanskaar quotient, it’s a household favorite, where the onscreen chemistry woven by the protagonist makes it a clear choice of the younger lot.
Featuring TV’s soap opera queen Sriti Jha and the ravishing Shabhir Ahluwalia, this story is the quintessential ‘we love to hate each other’ couple’s story. Abhi, the protagonist is a rock star while Pragya is a simple, plain Jane. The story started off as Punjabi matriarch Sarla Arora who runs a marriage hall and lives with the hope of seeing her two daughters Pragya and Bulbul who’re poles apart, happily married some day. Today, the story isn’t much far from where it started and is infamous for its twists.
3. Yeh Hai Mohabbatein
There has been no other show on Hindi TV serials that has got more media coverage. Another Balaji production (all leading three shows in all three GEC stalwarts belong to Balaji Telefilms and that says that Ekta Kapoor is still the reigning Queen of Indian TV), this show is super celebrated. Featuring the popular Karan Patel and Divyanka Tripathi , this show started off as an adjustment-cum-system where a Punjabi businessman marrying a South Indian doctor for the sake of his daughter.
Started off as a content rich series, this show has been doing incredibly well on charts. Meanwhile, Divyanka got married to her costar Vivek Dahiya and created rippled while Karan married his onscreen in-law’s daughter Ankita Bhargava. The show is a generation old today and still a slot leader.
4. Saath Nibhana Saathiya
A show that started off to portray the equation between first cousins Gopi and Rashi took an incredible turn when the eldest girl got married to the younger and the younger girl got married to the eldest one of very affluent Modi family. Set in Gujarat, Modis are business tycoons and these girls are in for a surprising lifestyle.
However things are not getting any better with their rivalry increasing and their respective husbands not being content about being married to these girls. Urmila, Rashi’s mother is a perfect villain with much poison to spit. Kokila Ben Modi, this matriarch takes charge of things and everything starts to fall into place. The term Kokilaben and Gopi Bahu have become synonymous to sanskaar these days. The show is almost two generations old and still live up to audience’s expectations. With larger than life sets, clothing and apparels, this show is visually stunning.
5. Tarak Mehta ka Ulta Chashma
This show is slightly different from the rest since it’s episodic. Each show deals with one particular concept and get over. In a nutshell, Gokuldham Society is a residential society in Powder Galli, Mumbai City Goregaon area. Seven families residing in Gokuldham society and the unanimous choice of leader in everyday life is Jethalal Champaklal Gada, an electronics shop-owner from Kutch region, Gujarat lives with his wife Daya, father Champaklal Jayantilal Gada and son Tipendra (Tapu).
The narrator is Tarak Mehta, doing justice to columnist who did this as a comic strip for his Gujarati publication. This show is funny, quirky and relatable which makes it a huge success amongst families.
